Monday

| 2020 | 11 | 23 | weekly winddown #?

 so I have lost count.

november has been quite the month hasn't it?

we're locked down (or are we) and just generally struggling to entertain ourselves through some rougher weather.

angus has built his own computer now in the new home office. I think we're going to try and do a repaint of the room too.

paddling has been my lifeline through these odd times. This photo was obviously taken before this lockdown as there are three of us.

another photot of the princess on my yoga mat.

| 2020 | 11 | 16 | deja vu |

 I'm injured again.

The legitimacy of my injury isn't helping the fact I don't want to be.

Thursday

| 2020 | 11 | 05 | sides |

 air of expectancy. silence.

my walk this morning was misty, gloomy and quiet. peaceful would be the wrong word, still is more appropriate.

it's almost as if the world is waiting for something. watching.

we are all hanging on to a precipice, hoping.

Sunday

| 2020 | 11 | 01 | groovy |

November feels very bleak right now.

today was our last group session for a while (who knows, 4 weeks? 8 weeks?). we reveled in the small things. there's something almost fun about the convoy over to the jubilee, the run beforehand and the changing in the car park afterwards. We had the most incredible sunny weather and had such a warm welcome from the local wildlife.

our home squad then went out for a meal. the giggling squid. family favourite. we just enjoyed it whilst we could.

I want to cry at the prospect of the sheer loneliness the next 4 weeks offers.

but i've just got to join everyone else doing what they can.

Sunday

 I feel like life. life has just caught up with me. A few break-ups ago (probably the one I handled the worst) my mantra was 'time passes, whether you want it to or not'.

It helped a lot. The idea that eventually I would be past the rocky stage and into a point wher eI could look back. I was ready to look back. I didn't really enjoy the stage of 'getting over' and just wanted it to be over.

I was trying to look forward into a future I hadn't yet reached.

---

anyway. i'm now at a point where i'm not trying to rush, but i am trying to appreciate.

my question to ponder is - would you want to know your relationships end date? would it make you appreciate it more?

would you know that you had a week left and make the most of the days, or would you write it off as there was only 7 to go?

i'm torn. I want to know. but also i don't need to.

Sunday

| 2020 | 09 | 27 |

so then i started writing a blog post.

and then I started this. a new project.

for no other purpose than to see if i can, I want to try and documents the moments between things. I realise it's really easy to let these moments in time pass when in actual fact they define my day.

it's just interesting.

Wednesday

| 2020 | 09 | 23 | what makes a good meal deal? |

 you have to go through a journey when you eat a meal deal.

no i mean a literal journey. sainsbury's is at least a mile away.

---

you're welcome.

----

i have now reached a point in life where i have a specific makeup routine for zoom.

let me tell you it is all about the eyebrows. seriously though. washout is a problem.

also this is the best ever music video.

Tuesday

| 2020 | 09 | 08 | the echoes ring so loud |

do you ever wonder if you're doing the right thing? making the right choices?

do you ever feel that reluctance to make a decision in order to avoid the responsibility?

right now i'm looking back over about eight years of bad choices and wishing i could go back. but not back to the me of then, back as i am now and make the decisions i'd be happy with now. not then.

ah see. that's the problem. the me of then was content with the decisions made. the me of now is not. that's why hindsight is dangerous.

it can make you live looking back at how things were with the mind you have now. but you aren't the same person you were then and had no idea what was in your future.

that's why you've just got to make the decisions. and stick with them.

Monday

| 2020 | 09 | 07 | weekly wind down 28 |

as i always say - the busier i am the less time i have to document it. we're actually managing to be quite productive humans.

here is a photo dump. some we've seen. some we haven't. but here we go.

| 2020 | 09 | 07 |

this song.

actually i have a few.

---

can i just take a moment.

i didn't get to watch films when i was younger. we weren't allowed. unless they were on my brothers watch list.
I made the mistake of straying from said list and let me tell you that's a mistake you make once.

----

sometimes you just do things.

yelled at me age five. i had to learn early that sometimes, you just do things. whether it be load the dishwasher. whether it be wait patiently for half an hour to leave the house. things aren't always convenient. sometimes you can't have your toys.

sometimes, you put yourself on the naughty step because you know it's the right thing to do.

sometimes. you just make compromise. because that's how it is. you don't get to argue with it. you just get on with it even if you don't want to.

no ones going to fight your corner. no ones going to tell you otherwise. they'll just shrug and say 'lifes not fair'. sometimes. things happen.

sometimes you just have to roll with it.

sometimes. you just do things.

honestly i wish more people realised this. they're so self entitled and self centred they forget that sometimes you have to just crack on, because it's just the way it is. life isn't always in your favour.

Friday

| 2020 | 08 | 28 | Noughty Hair Care - Wave Hello Curl Cream |

Intentional living is the art of being selective and present during your decision making process.

Similar to my shampoo post, I understand that curl cream is not a necessity. Nor is it something I will 100% repurchase.

But if you are going to buy one, consider one with a brand we can all get behind.

Little steps.

the what::
as per my previous post singing the praises of the Wave Hello Shampoo, Noughty is a brand with a range of 97% natural products. Free from parabens, silicone's, petrochemicals and sulphates - what could you complain about?
[fyi the 3% is the stuff to stop it going off - 'the preservative system'].

They're also striving for sustainability and the packaging will be recyclable from January 2021.

> noughty is not tested on animals
> all noughty products are registered with the vegetarian society and the vegan society.

If you are familiar with curly haired styling, this is the 'activator' you need. It contains 'curl optimizing QuinOxy' to discipline curls and tame frizz.

It sells for £6.99.

the how::
after washing with your shampoo (or co-wash if you're fancy) apply a decent amount to towel-dried (or t-shirt, also if you're feeling fancy). Place it in the palm of your hand and emulsify slightly. Starting at the mid point move it through to the ends. then style as per.

my thoughts::
i'm fairly fickle when it comes to hair products. convenience, price and packaging are usually enough to sway my loyalty. i'm not just talking once i've finished a product, it's been known that i'll bin something halfway through in favour of something new.

however i've almost finished this and will be repurchasing. i'm not joking about being a noughty fan girl.

i use this on sopping wet hair and scrunch it through. my hair feels like, bouncy and the curls are more defined than when i go without.

changes::
in a perfect world (as with all products) the packaging this came in would be more environmentally friendly.
I'd also love for it to be slightly more hydrating, but the compromise there would be the lightness of the product.

Thursday

| 2020 | 08 | 27 | Noughty Hair Care - Wave Hello Shampoo |

 Intentional living is the art of being selective and present during your decision making process.

I understand that shampoo is not environmentally friendly as it is a highly processed item and honestly if we discussed the pros and cons we'd be here forever.

However, I've taken the time to chose something I know I use, make the most of and truly think the brand is a good one.

Little steps.

the why::
I have been wanting to sort my hair-care routine out for a very long time. I have dabbled with the curly girl method, tried cutting out certain products and generally tried to wash it less - but I've not quite found the perfect balance between low maintenance and looking put together.

the what::

> noughty is not tested on animals

the how::
if you aren't familiar with shampoo... now might be the time to start.
it's interesting because marketing tells you to strive for the 'squeaky clean' feeling, but fundamentally you don't want to completely strip your hair of the oils it needs to stay protected and hydrated.

Wave Hello Curl Defining Shampoo cleanses without stripping and defines any curls with sea kelp extract and avocado oil.

my thoughts::
it's really hard with products like shampoo to determine whether they work. If i think back over the past ten years, I've never truly had a shampoo that stands out and that I'd actively remain loyal to however...
when i finished my second bottle in a row of Wave Hello Curl Defining Shampoo I was shocked to find there was a noticeable difference in my hair when i changed to something else.
Nothing else in my routine had changed except that.

It doesn't lather in the traditional sense - it's not a soap - so you have to be patient with the product. sometimes it can take some time for your hair to transition over to natural products so a combination of a lack of lather and weird feeling hair can be initially off putting.

I'm frustrated I chose to stray from this brand and will be going back as soon as my current one is empty.

You can also find them on Amazon.

changes::
in a perfect world, this would have more of a fragrance to it (i imagine this isn't good for your hair)
it would also be in more environmentally friendly packaging (i know that's a future promise but it's not now).

Wednesday

| 2020 | 08 | 26 | minimalism |

 minimalism is two things; an art movement and a way of life.

1) the art movement started in the 1950s and focused on the clean aesthetic of massive forms rather than smaller detail. the bigger picture.

2) minimalism is a truly reductive lifestyle, as implied by the word 'minimum'.

the least.
the fewest.
the bare minimum.

It takes on a number of forms and over the years has evolved into something quite complex.
for some, minimalism is truly about striving to have the fewest possessions possible. you'll see youtube videos of people counting out their items and able to fit everything into one backpack.
others embody minimalism in a different form. they do not obsess over reaching an arbitrary number. rather treat it as more of a minset to enable focus on the things in life which truly matter.

simplicity, clarity and intentional living

---

Intentionality is living with purpose. At its core, minimalism means intentionally bringing certain elements of your life forwards and removing those which do not add value.

It frees up time, space and creativity.

Monday

| 2020 | 08 | 24 | making changes |

 recently i've been thinking.

i know i shouldn't do that because honestly it just causes problems.

but.

I think i need to make some changes.

- reduce the animal products i consume

- avoid anything from companies that have been tested on animals

i'm not saying i'm ready to go fully vegan however i'd like to make smarter choices.

this means more research, fewer purchases and generally being stricter with myself.

small steps though.

firstly switching away from dairy is going to be tough.

dropping all meat - again that's tough because i'm surrounded by meat eaters. not impossible but i don't want to make things too complicated.

beauty and consumables. these are tough because i have a lot to use up. so it will take time.

Friday

| 2020 | 08 | 14 | sigh |

 if there's one thing you can be sure of in our calender, it's the annual trip to france.

well, except this year.

this year we were all caught by 'surprise' by coronavirus and it has thrown our routine out of whack.

last night at 10pm the government introduced a 2 week quarantine for travellers from france, ensuring we 100% couldn't go. dad doesn't have that sort of flexibility.

i'm quite sad we can't go. i know we're lucky to even have it as an option but there's something so simple about the area.

the dry heat

our long winding walks up and down random paths, having a good old explore.

we have an unspoken and established routine for that week, every year. no surprises.
